I sold my 50th item from my Etsy shop the other day! I’m pretty happy with that seeing as it’s only been open for almost 3 months and I have been really only selling one style of shirt. I get a few sales on the other two but most of them have been for my Doctor Who quote shirt. I honestly can’t believe I’ve sold that many. I’ve been working on new items for my shop and mostly keeping with the Doctor Who theme. So without further ado, here they are!
The first three things are a variation on one item.
First we have a pendent in Gallifreyan. It’s the Doctor’s language from the show Doctor Who. It is a custom pendent. This one is my name, Sarah.
My name in Gallifreyan
Then we have a version of it with another pendent that I call the starry sky pendent. I think it give an abstract idea of a twinkling night sky.
Travel the galaxy with the Doctor
Then we have a keychain version of this. I thought this was nice for those who don’t wear necklaces or for guys who are fans of Who.
Simple yet nerdy.
The last item has nothing to do with Doctor Who. It’s kind of morbid but really pretty too. Says me all over it and I really hope I’m not the only one who thinks it’s pretty. :) It’s a tea-cup and saucer that has Swarovski crystals attached to it to look like blood dripping down the side. Sparkly and creepy!
It’s probably Edward Cullen’s blood. He sparkles right?
There you have it! I hope you like my new items.
Yep, you read that correctly, I’m taking phonetography lessons. They are lessons on how to take better pictures with your phone’s camera. Phone cameras are really good these days and they are perfect if you don’t want to carry around a full camera all of the time or one for all of those moments you didn’t think would happen. I’m sure you all know what I’m talking about. Now obviously your phone isn’t going to have all of the features that your nice hand held camera has but they can come pretty close. I’m used to just pulling out my phone and tapping the shutter button and done. These lessons have been showing me how to utilize all the camera has to offer and what apps can be great additions to the stock camera app.
The lessons are through the photography site, Photojojo and the lessons are sent to your email twice a week for 4 weeks. The cost is 5 dollars plus you get a 5 dollar gift card at the end for the website so the cost may end up zero if you use the gift card. I thought that was quite reasonable. This is the link to the sign up page.
Now do I think I’m going to become a grand phone photographer? No but I do like the idea of knowing what all my camera app does and trying to get some nice photos from it. I’m a very visual person and I’ve always loved pictures and it’s my favorite way to document something so I’m mostly doing it for myself. Here are a few of the photos I’ve done from the lessons so far.
Just some simple stuff. I also borrowed a camera from a friend and have been playing around with it.
As I said I don’t have any grand designs of becoming a photographer. There are those with a far better eye than I but I enjoy it as a hobby and while it’s mostly for my enjoyment I do like to share with others as well.
What’s this? Two blog posts in one week. Madness I tell you! Oh yeah, my blog is all about madness. Any hoo, I have a quick little post to show off the pretty Spring themed cupcakes I made the other day. I wanted cupcakes but didn’t feel like making them from scratch this time so I bought some white cake mix, white frosting and neon gel food coloring. In no time at all I had bright beautiful cupcakes. Taste really good too.
They are a bit brighter in person.
The photo isn’t the best but it was an impromptu session with my phone. This is also cause for celebration because it’s probably the first time my frosting looks fancy. My frosting skills are improving and one day I hope to be a frosting ninja.
The cupcakes themselves were easy. Make the batter as it says on the box. Divide it into as many portions as colors you want, I had four. Add food coloring, mix and bake as normal. The frosting is also pretty easy. Divide the same way and add food coloring. Then follow this great tutorial like I did. Easy peasy and you have pretty cupcakes. Of course now I’ll eat them all. I forgot I was the only one around for the next few weeks so it’s good I love to eat these delicious little baked goods.
I just can’t seem to get the hang of this whole blogging thing. I’m really good about updating for a few weeks or maybe a month and then I just stop because I’m not motivated or I hit crafters block. What ya gonna do? I was on vacation down in Alabama visiting my parents for almost two weeks so that’s a bit of an excuse. I love going down there. It’s very laid back and lots of great food. Plus with the winter we had here in Michigan it was great to get down to the beach even if it was only in the low 60’s.
Piles of shells. The sea is so rough here you barely find shells intact.
Cute little turtle paving stones outside my parents house.
Prickly palm trees.
Unintentional ‘artsy’ photo when my hair got in the way.
While down there my movie début came out. I am an extra in Oz: The Great and Powerful. I know it’s been out for a while now but you still have a chance to see it if you haven’t already. I actually have a close up. I’m a Kansas woman in the magic show tent and I’m actually the last one to run into the tent before the show starts and then I’m in a close shot with two other people. I was very surprised by that because you just never know if you’ll even be seen. When the DVD comes out I’ll post some screen captures.
Also while down there we went to Bellingrath Gardens just outside of Mobile. What a gorgeous place. It was a private home built in the 1930’s but they always opened the gardens up to the public. It was beautiful in early March so I can only imagine it during the peak season. They also say that the Christmas display is wonderful too.
A fountain near the front. Normally there are many kinds of Roses in bloom around this fountain. We were there too early for that.
Little lizard playing hide and seek.
One of the many streams.
The courtyard of the house.
One of the walkways in bloom.
Mom and I at one of the many fountains. There is a lot of water here. It’s built by a river too.
Fish in one of the other ponds.
Lots of Coke bottles. Mr. Bellingrath was the first Coke bottler in Alabama.
I will be back soon with some things I’ve made and another recipe… I promise.
